In a massive demolition-cum-sealing drive by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday 33 properties were targeted in the central zone. In the posh Greater Kailash-I area in south Delhi the agency sealed two properties, six properties were sealed in Kotla Mubarakpur area and three properties demolished in Sri Niwas Puri area.
The building department of south zone targeted another nine properties in Malviya Nagar, Chirag Delhi and Devli. A senior official said the demolition drive will continue.
"The properties were built illegally and thus sealed. Those that were demolished had built extensions without taking permission or by violating building rules," the official added.
With Wednesday's sealing, the building department of central zone has sealed/demolished a total of 65 properties in the last one week. A dozen more properties are expected to be sealed/demolished on Thursday.
The civic agency has been taking serious action on those violating rules since the Lalita Park collapse in October 2010 that killed over 70 people. "Building owners in the city continue with unauthorised constructions. The building mafia also fool people by selling houses that do not abide by the rules," said an official.
