The wait to book a hotel room in Delhi’s new swanky commercial enclave coming up near the airport is set to get longer.
A committee set up to assess the safety hazard the upcoming Aerocity project may pose to the Delhi airport has asked the hotels to submit a security plan before commencing operations.
To start with, every hotel will have to install biometric system for strict access control to buildings close to the runways.
In its guidelines to security agencies, the committee has asked hotels not to allow any guest on the rooftop. “All the hotels operating from the aerocity will have to submit their security plan to the Bureau for Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and can commence operations only after getting approval. The BCAS will check the security infrastructure and whether trained manpower is in place. The security plan should also consider the various requirements of Delhi Police,” a senior BCAS official said.
In July 2011, the Delhi Police had raised objections to the construction of hotels near Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport. Delhi Police had conducted a security audit and found that once constructed, the hotels would be a security hazard due to its proximity to the runways.
The letter issued by the committee says, “All entities will maintain strict access control for all buildings through biometric entry passes/ cards readers system. All employees will be security vetted and updated records shall be maintained by the management.”
The panel has also banned firearms in the hotels. “Except for government armed personnel, no one will be allowed to enter the hotels with firearms. Also, only authorised persons will have access to rooftops,” the official added. Delhi International Airport Limited had planned the 45-acre hospitality district having hotels of all ranges, budget to luxury.
