The spat over financial transparency between India Against Corruption (IAC) members and their former colleagues grew louder on Sunday, with Rajinder Singh, popularly known as ‘waterman’, joined Swami Agnivesh in urging Hazare’s key lieutenant Arvind Kejriwal to come clean on the donations received by the group.
From the other side, Kiran Bedi raised the pitch alleging a pattern to defame Team Anna and said: "Hang some of us if that helps." Kejriwal's aide Manish Sisodia said Agnivesh raised the allegations out of anger and Team Anna was maintaining transparency.
“They (Team Anna) preach transparency but in this case, we cannot see any transparency. They should come clean on this,” Singh told PTI.
While Singh quit IAC protesting against its anti-Congress stand, Agnivesh was shown the door owing to his critical views on Hazare’s movement.
A day after he alleged diversion of donations to the tune of Rs 70-80 lakh to Kejriwal-run NGO Public Cause Research Foundation (PCRF), Agnivesh again said on Sunday that Hazare was keen to form a new trust with new members on board but it didn’t work out.
“I’m not saying Kejriwal is deliberately doing so... I’m asking for the details of accounts because if they don’t do it quickly, people would raise questions,” Agnivesh said.
Team Anna, however, said details would be posted on the website of the PCRF, the nodal body for Hazare’s agitation, by month-end. “We have conducted a special audit for the last six months,” Sisodia said.
While Agnivesh said even clean people like Santosh Hegde was not part of PCRF, Sisodia said PCRF had invited Team Anna’s core committee members to be PCRF trustee. Meanwhile, Bedi said Team Anna was paying a “personal cost” for raising national concerns. (with PTI inputs)
