‘We do need our heroes’
Do students these days have role models? And who exactly are their heroes?
For Saiyam Khurana, a Class XII student of Hans Raj Model School, freedom fighter Bhagat Singh is a role model. His reason: “Bhagat Singh did so much for our country at an age when people like us just learn how to wipe our noses properly.”
Others try to emulate Bollywood stars. One of the reasons that guys want to be like the movie heroes is the ‘to-die-for’ bodies of actors like John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan. Not to forget Hollywood hotties like, who else but Mr Bond.
Sandeep Chauhan, a Class X student of Raisina Bengali School “loves the stunts” performed by Bond star Daniel Craig and calls him his idol. Of course, in cricket-crazy India, sportspersons, rather, cricketers can hardly be excluded from the youth’s pantheon.
Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and Team India captain MS Dhoni are always on top of youngsters’ lists of heroes, “because of the glory they have brought to the country with their performances.”
Others, like Aditya Abhyankar, Class XII student of HRMS, Punjabi Bagh, do not believe in hero worship. “My role model is every one who is positive and from whom I can learn. I don’t think just one person can ever offer all the insight and knowledge that I seek,” says Abhyankar.
