The basics don’t come easy or cheap in Delhi. From buying vegetables at the morning mart to hiring an auto to work, everything involves bargaining. Still, you end up feeling ripped off.

Professor Sri Ram Khanna, an expert on consumer affairs, said, “People can only complain where there is a law, but where there is no law, one can only appeal to the conscience. There is a crisis of business ethics.”

Now when over a lakh (100,000) tourists are expected to visit Delhi for next year’s Commonwealth Games, the authorities do not have the necessary arrangements in place for ensuring the visitors are not exploited.

Delhi Police’s tourist wing vans are positioned only at 10 places across Delhi.

Still, in a crunch, try calling these numbers:
011 – 23010101: Traffic helpline
011 – 42400400 Department of Transport helpline for complaints against auto-rickshaws
