White tiger Vijay turns 10, Delhi zoo has ordered a cake

The Delhi Zoo is gearing up for a birthday party.
Vijay, the zoo’s famous white tiger, turns 10 on Friday and the zoo authorities have invited school students to take part in the big cat’s birthday celebrations.
Recently, the authorities decided to celebrate birthdays of all its inmates. A senior zoo official said that though Vijay’s birthday is on Friday, they have decided to celebrate it on Thursday as the zoo is closed on Friday.
After Vijay, the zoo will celebrate the 57th birthday of its oldest inmate, Rita, the lone chimpanzee here. Rita has been in the zoo since 1964. “She came to Delhi in 1964 all the way from the Amsterdam zoo. However, the zoo authority has no official record of her birthday, so it has been decided to celebrate it soon,” the official said.
According to zoo officials, a large picture of Vijay will be placed in the complex where children can take photos. Officials said a cake had been ordered which will be cut by the children in the zoo complex.
The big cat, however, won’t have anything to do with the birthday bash as zoo officials don’t want to disturb him. He will, though, get a special chicken feast besides his regular buffalo meat diet.
Vijay was in the news in 2014, when the tiger mauled a youth who had jumped into its enclosure.
