As part of an aggressive marketing campaign for the Capital, the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) will soon appoint the state's first-ever brand ambassador.

Taking a cue from states such as Gujarat and West Bengal, which have Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan as their brand ambassadors respectively, DTTDC will also choose a celebrity face to represent the capital. It had also started a contest recently to come up with a tagline for the city as part of this campaign.

While Aamir Khan endorses the Incredible India campaign, Preity Zinta is the face of Himachal Pradesh. Others on the list include actor Prachi Desai (Goa) and badminton player Saina Nehwal (Andhra Pradesh).

"The plan is in the discussion stage and names such as actor Akshay Kumar and cricketer Virender Sehwag have been proposed. We want a brand ambassador who belongs to Delhi and has won laurels for their work," said a senior DTTDC official who didn't wish to be named.http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/Popup/2012/5/21_05-pg6a.jpg

"Delhi has so much to offer and to showcase the city, we certainly need a face that represents its strength in a good perspective," he said. After authorities take a decision and choose a brand ambassador, the final nod will come from Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who is also the tourism minister.

"A lot of states have brand ambassadors and it will be a part of our strategy to promote the city. The decision on who is the best brand ambassador to promote Delhi would be taken by our chief minister," said DTTDC chairman Manish Chatrath, adding that the idea is still at a nascent stage.

"The chief minister herself is the biggest brand ambassador of the state as she knows a lot about the history and culture of the city," Chatrath said.

Sources said that the government may take a call or conduct a poll in which Delhiites will choose their brand ambassador.
