A 32-year-old Indian national, languishing in a prison for travelling on a fake passport, has claimed that her UK-based husband of Pakistani origin got her the fake passport to travel to London.

Immigration authorities in Kiev (Ukraine) had apprehended the woman with her fake British passport on May 29. She was then deported to India and arrested from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/Popup/2012/6/09_06_12-metro2d.jpg

The woman told the police that she lived with her husband in the UK and had come to visit her family in Hyderabad a month ago. She said she had met her husband in London, where the two later got married. But after a few months, she said, her husband wanted to marry someone else.

She alleged that her husband arranged her passport and other travel documents and deliberately gave her a fake passport. The woman also claimed that it was her husband who informed immigration authorities at Ukraine about her travelling on a fake passport.

A senior police officer said, “During questioning, she said she had an Indian passport but her husband had asked her to travel on a British passport, which she got in Kathmandu. She also suspects that her husband gave her the forged passport so that she would be deported and jailed.”

The woman had left India for Kathmandu on May 17 by an Indigo flight. “She flew from Kathmandu to London via Delhi (in transit) and Kiev on her fake British passport on May 23,” the officer added.

He said the woman said an agent in Kathmandu had given her the British passport and that he was paid Rs 11 lakh for it. She also said her husband used to come to Kathmandu on a regular basis and was in touch with the agent.

Police have taken details of the agent based in Kathmandu and forwarded it to the authorities concerned.

They are also verifying the woman’s claims before taking the next step.

Meanwhile, police have seized her Indian passport, while a scanned copy of her fake UK passport was emailed by the immigration authority of Ukraine. The woman has been booked for cheating.
