The ghastly incident was reported from Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital (JPN) when a poor couple came to the city from Eastern Uttar Pradesh with the hopes of getting better treatment.

The Central Delhi Police have arrested two persons — Ramesh (28) and Rahul (20) — for allegedly kidnapping of an 18-year-old housewife. The police said the accused have been in involved in similar cases the past as well.

“On January 9, as soon as the couple deboarded at the New Delhi Railway Station, they enquired about the location of JPN Hospital from a person who readily accompanied them. The man claimed that as the treatment would take time, they should rent a place. He also offered to show them a few accommodations for which he asked the woman’s husband to accompany him,” said Vivek Kishore, deputy commissioner of police (central).

The police said the accused took him to some place unknown, where he asked him to wait.

The accused then vanished from the spot. The husband went back to the hospital and found his wife missing. “When he enquired from other patients in the corridor, they informed that his wife was taken away by some people. We immediately registered a case in the matter,” added Kishore.

The police said the kidnappers were traced to Haryana. Ramesh and Rahul were arrested from Delhi and Ambala. The victim was rescued from Karnal, Haryana, where she was sold to a handicapped person namely Karan Singh a resident of Village Bijna.

During interrogation, the accused said that there were six-members in the gang, including two women.

“They target young girls at railway stations, ISBT and hospitals and get familiar with them on the pretext of helping them. They then kidnap and sell them at a heavy price. Ramesh was earlier involved in a similar case of kidnapping in the Old Delhi Railway Station in 2006 and is out on bail,” added Kishore.
