A 19-year-old woman was injured after a bullet allegedly fired on the ground by her boyfriend to scare her, ricocheted off the floor and hit her leg in northeast Delhi’s Sunder Nagri on Friday night.
The crime took place around 9.30 pm outside the woman’s home, in the presence of her family members. The attacker, identified as Anwar, fled the crime scene, even as the woman’s family members and locals tried to catch him. A case was registered against him at the Nand Nagri police station, police said.
A police officer said that the woman lives with her family members in H-Block, Sunder Nagri. She is a school dropout. In her statement, the woman alleged that Anwar was troubling her for some months and was pressurising her to continue their friendship. “She wanted to move on, but Anwar was not letting her get out of the relationship,” the officer said.
On Friday night, the officer said, Anwar arrived outside the woman’s home and asked her to meet him. He wanted to discuss and sort out their issues. During the discussion, the couple entered into an argument. Her family members also came out hearing them argue.
“Anwar took out a pistol and pointed it at the woman. When she pushed him back, Anwar became angry and fired a bullet on the ground to scare her. The bullet ricocheted off the surface and hit the woman on her leg,” the officer said adding the woman was taken to a nearby hospital. She was discharged after medical attention, he added.
