A 57-year-old woman tried to commit suicide allegedly by consuming pills outside her flat in south Delhi's Vasant Vihar that was sealed by the MCD two years ago over unauthorised construction.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon. The victim, Chandra Thakur, is undergoing treatment at AIIMS.

She worked in a private school in RK Puram as a senior administration officer. Police said Chandra was under depression for the past few months over the sealing of her house.

Before taking the extreme step, Chandra scribbled a suicide note on the outer wall of her flat, accusing the MCD of not de-sealing her house.

In the note, she also blamed some of her neighbours for leading her to take the extreme step, police said.

The suicide note read: "Total number of flat 120..unauthorised construction 102…only one flat is sealed…why MCD is not taking action..I committed suicide because of MCD + (name of neighbours)…you can only cremate my body after the…permit de-seal of my flat not before….."

Chandra's husband, Surender Singh Thakur, alleged that his wife tried to commit suicide because of the mental torture she was facing at the hands of MCD and some of his neighbours. Senior MCD officials rejected the allegation.

"Their property was sealed two years ago because they had illegally constructed two rooms on the terrace of the building. Besides, they had also expanded their balcony to six feet which we found hazardous. The property was de-sealed three times when each time they promised to remove the illegal construction. They failed to keep their promise and we had to seal the property," said a senior MCD official.
