In a bizarre incident, a woman crashed her car into a road divider on the DND Expressway, came out bleeding, scaled the railings and jumped into the Yamuna on Sunday evening.

The woman, Indu Prabha (37), was an upper division clerk at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Her husband Bhagwati Prasad — a CISF sub-inspector — is posted at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The couple have two sons.

Though the incident was reported around 9 pm on Sunday, the police had not traced the body even till Monday evening.

Prabha was returning from her relative’s house in Noida around on Sunday when she crashed her car into the road divider.

Rajan Bhatia — a passerby who was in an autorickshaw — told the police the woman, who was bleeding from her head, stormed out of her car. She then scaled the railing of the bridge and jumped into the river.

A call was made to the police control room and fire officials and divers were pressed into action.

“We still have not been able to ascertain the motive behind the incident. Investigations are on,” said Ajay Chaudhry, DCP (southeast).

The police said Prabha was returning from her in-laws’ Noida home and was on her way to her parents’ house in Sadiq Nagar. Eyewitnesses told the police Prabha was driving at a high speed.

Meanwhile, two television journalists complained to the police that the woman’s brother beat them up when they went to his house in Sadiq Nagar. A case of robbery and hurt has been registered against unknown persons at the New Friends Colony police station.
