Woman found dead in east Delhi home, cops suspect personal enmity

A 52-year-old woman, caretaker of a a paying guest accommodation, was found dead inside her house with cut marks on her neck and stomach in east Delhi’s Lalita Park on Thursday evening.

A 52-year-old woman, caretaker of a a paying guest accommodation, was found dead inside her house with cut marks on her neck and stomach in east Delhi’s Lalita Park on Thursday evening.

Sangeeta was living alone in her first-floor apartment after her husband died two years ago. Her sister-in-law lives on the ground floor of the same building.

Around 7 pm on Friday, Sangeeta returned home from the PG accommodation she looks after. She cooked her meals and went to her room to sleep.

Three hours later, her sister-in-law, who had gone to the terrace, was walking down the stairs when she saw two men locking Sangeeta’s main door from outside and going out. She followed them and saw the men leaving the place on a bike. She went to her husband and informed him.

“She saw the men putting the latch at Sangeeta’s apartment from outside and followed them. She however did not stop and question them. When she went her told her husband about it, he went and checked if Sangeeta was home. When they opened the door, they found Sangeeta dead in the bedroom,” a senior police officer said.

“The men had attacked her with a sharp object. She had cut marks on her stomach and neck. It appeared as if the men even tried to strangle her,” he added.

Police said the house was not ransacked. “Everything was intact. It did not seem that the men had come to commit a robbery. The cash and jewellery in the house, too, was untouched,” a police officer told HT.

The police have launched a search for the accused and asked Sangeeta’s sister-in-law to help them prepare a sketch of the men.

”Since she saw the two men, we asked her to help us prepare sketches. We are taking help from our local sources to identify the men. Raids are being conducted. A case of murder has been registered,” a police officer said.

The police suspect it to be a case of personal enmity. “It does not seem that robbery was the motive behind the murder as all valuables were intact in the house. We are probing the case from all angles,” a police officer said.

Sangeeta’s husband died two years ago and she lived alone in the house. She is survived by two daughters who are married.
