In one of the most horrific crimes committed in the national capital, a woman was brutally murdered while her two-month-old baby lay crying in the same room.

The incident has once again proven how unsafe the capital is for women.

The murder took place in North Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area where Abha Gupta, 25, a mother of two children was found killed in her first floor house.

Abha was found murdered in her house on Friday at 11.05pm by her husband. “I had gone to work at 7pm in the evening. When I returned home at 11.05pm, the door was open and she was lying in a pool of blood,” said Naresh Gupta, Abha’s husband.

“Abha Gupta, a native of Samastipur, Bihar, was found with her throat slit in Jahangirpuri on Saturday night. Nothing was stolen from the house. The motive of the killing could not be ascertained in initial investigations. We are examining all angles thoroughly,” a senior police officer said.

The husband suspects that two of his employees could have committed the crime as he recently had a verbal brawl with them.

“Last month, I employed two people to work at my Chinese eatery stall. They were asking for leave and more money and when I refused them they warned me that I would have to pay a heavy price for this,” said Gupta, who runs a Chinese eatery in Jahangirpuri.

“Umesh and his friend, Raju, were helpers of Naresh. We are investigating their role in the murder,” added the official. Abha’s body was taken to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital, where she was declared dead.

“The couple had been living on the first floor for the past five years and the landlord was living on the ground floor," the officer added.
