Woman kills self, another stabbed to death

A 20-year old woman set herself on fire in Sangam Vihar area of southeast Delhi on Thursday night. The victim, Khushboo, in her dying declaration before the the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) alleged that she was harassed for dowry by her in-laws and husband.
A case of dowry death has been registered at the Sangam Vihar police station. Khushboo's husband Harish Gupta owns several autorickshaws. A relative of Khushboo made a PCR call and informed the police that Khusboo has set herself on fire after pouring kerosene on her body.
She was rushed to the Safdarjung Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on Friday morning. "Khushboo's in-laws were present in the house, while her husband was away at the time of the incident. In her statement to the SDM, Kushboo told she was being harassed and tortured for dowry since her marriage in November 2009," said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity. The couple has an eight-month-old daughter.
Police have also taken the statement of Khushboo's parents who alleged that Gupta used to harass her for dowry. "He used to force her to ask her parents to give him cash and a car. Her mother-in-law, too, had beaten her up on several occasions. Even Gupta used to beat her for getting his demands fulfilled," they told the police.
Meanwhile in another incident a 40-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her husband in Harsh Vihar area of northeast Delhi. The victim, Rajjo Devi, was the second wife of accused Sadhuram, who has nine children from his first wife. Police said the couple used to fight regularly over petty issues.
"We have arrested Sadhuram, 49, who works in a factory. He came to Harsh Vihar police station and confessed to the crime. A case of murder has been registered.
