Pro-Telangana MPs of the Congress, who again stalled the Lok Sabha proceedings over the separate statehood issue, have agreed to give some discounts to the party.

While they will continue to disrupt the proceedings, the party hierarchy has been assured that they will not block key bills and vote in favour of the government in crunch situations.

In the last session, nine pro-Telangana MPs had defied the party whip at least twice and skipped voting on bills. The Congress, however, did not press for action against them.

After the Lok Sabha was disrupted for the second consecutive day over the issue of Telangana, top Congress managers huddled to workout a strategy.

Congress in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad met the aggrieved MPs of the party and reportedly told them that the statehood issue was “not a closed chapter”.

“We told Azad that we will not act against the interest of the party and if required, vote in favour of the government. We are fighting for a commitment,” Nizamabad MP Madhu Gaud Yaskhi told HT.
