With Delhi Metro phase-II nearing completion, groundwork for its Phase III has also begun.
Senior Delhi government officials said they are studying the Phase-III project report of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
DMRC has suggested construction of 69.57 km Metro lines in phase-III. Meanwhile, a joint team of DMRC and Delhi government officials surveyed the 1.5-km stretch of the proposed Metro link between Punjabi Bagh and Shakurpur, which will come up in Phase-III. Residents along this stretch had approached the Delhi government last week with a request that the stretch be constructed underground.
"Since the underground section will involve huge demolition, we have recommended that the line should remain elevated and minor realignments be made to avoid any demolition during construction," said an official, part of the survey team.
