Work on the much-awaited Industrial Model Township (IMT) on the pattern of Manesar will finally take-off within a month's period.

Coming up on 1,832 acres of land near Ballabgarh, about eight kilometers from Faridabad, work on infrastructure development had hit a roadblock last year after the farmers, whose land was acquired for setting up IMT, launched an agitation, demanding compensation at market rates.

However, hope were rekindled after the farmers called-off their agitation about a month ago after getting assurance from the state authorities to look into their demands.

"I am coming to lay the foundation stone for IMT in Faridabad within a month's time," said chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda while addressing industrialists at a function here on Saturday.

It may be mentioned Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), which has already acquired 1,832 acres of land for creation of IMT in Faridabad, was planning to invite Hooda to lay the foundation stone in July last year, but had to shelve the programme due to the farmers' agitation.

"Work on IMT Faridabad will start within a few days' time as announced by the chief minister," Rajeev Arora, managing director HSIIDC told the Hindustan Times on Monday.

He added that after the chief minister returns from Israel, date for laying of foundation stone would be finalised. Officials said infrastructure development company - Ramky Infrastructure - has been entrusted with the task of developing the IMT site.

For the mega-project, the HSIIDC has acquired about 1,832 acres of land in villages such as Chandawli, Machgar, Nawadah, Sutai and Mujedi etc.

Faridabad houses over 20,000 industries, mostly related to auto components, textiles etc. It is believed that the coming up of IMT will help industrialists expand their network.
