The 19th New Delhi World Book Fair will be on from today till February 7 at the Pragati Maidan. The theme of this year’s fair is ‘Reading for Common Wealth’, to mark Delhi's hosting the much-anticipated Commonwealth Games in October this year.

In keeping with this year’s theme, some 700 titles published by 75 publishers across the country on different sports will be exhibited at the Theme Pavilion. A special International Rights Catalogue, with bibliographic and copyright details of more than 550 titles, based on this exhibition, will also be brought out.

The fair will be spread out over many halls and categories. There will be stalls hosting English-language publishers and distributors, publishers of books on science and technology, education, social sciences, humanities and multimedia. Publishers of Indian regional language, Hindi language and children’s books will also be present.

This biennial New Delhi World Book Fair is organised by the National Book Trust of India. It aims to create platforms for trade in copyrights, cultural exchanges and trade promotions and presentations by exhibitors and cultural organisations from India and across the world.

“Despite the fear of recession, the book trade is not doing badly,” says Bipin Chandra, chairman of National Book Trade. “We’ve got over 1,200 publishers from across the world who have booked more than 2,000 stalls. There will be many exciting books and events this time at the fair.” Shoppers can also expect discounts.
