Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who appears to have fended off for now the pressure to step down for alleged nepotism in land allotment, on Tuesday night met BJP President Nitin Gadkari.

The meeting, which began at around 09.30 pm and continued well past midnight, is apparently aimed at working out the "concessions" Yeddyurappa could make in return for his continuance as Chief Minister for now so that the party is seen to be doing something to tackle the charges against him.

As part of a compromise between Yeddyurappa and the BJP central leaders, the Chief Minister is likely to come out with a statement that he never meant defiance of the party and would accept whatever the party decides for him.

The meeting between Yeddyurappa and Gadkari was also attended among others by party Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, General Secretary Arun Jaitley and General Secretary (Organization) Ram Lal.

Earlier in the day, there were hectic parleys among BJP's top brass and Yeddyurappa's meetings with some central party leaders, after indications were available that that he might get a breather in view of the coming local body elections in the state.

Party chief Nitin Gadkari said a decision on the Chief Minister's fate will be announced tomorrow at 11 am.
