Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday once again accused lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung of interfering in the Delhi’s government’s functioning, ratcheting up his long-running power tussle with the Centre’s representative in a letter laced with sarcasm.
Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor, mocked the lieutenant governor saying that Jung will never become the vice president despite all the “illegal, anti-people and unconstitutional things you might do on (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi ji’s instructions”.
The chief minister said he was offering a “small suggestion” to the L-G as his “younger brother”.
L-G said, who denies working at the behest of the Centre, said in response to Kejriwal’s fresh barb: “I feel sorry for his paranoia.”
Ever since returning to power with a landslide victory, Kejriwal has attacked Jung for allegedly interfering in and impeding the Delhi government’s work on the instruction of the BJP-led government at the Centre.
Key departments of the national capital are under the L-G, who reports to the Union home ministry. The friction between Kejriwal and Jung centres on administrative jurisdiction -- clearing of files, appointments and transfers.
Last month, the AAP government unveiled a draft bill seeking full statehood for Delhi, seeking to take control of departments like police and land records.
In the letter, Kejriwal also asked Jung to direct the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) to file an FIR against Delhi government officials after the inauguration of the 100-bed Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital on Sunday.
“These days, you and Modi ‘sahab’ get every little project of the Delhi government scrutinised by the ACB and CBI, irrespective of whether there are irregularities or not,” the chief minister said.
“Please also ask PM Narendra Modi ji to order a CBI raid at health minister Satyendra Jain’s place for the crime of completing the construction of the hospital in record time,” Kejriwal said in an apparent reference to an ACB raid at the office of one of his key aides on charges of corruption.
Kejriwal said there were a few people who serve the mankind, “struggle and construct” while others are tasked with destructing and putting spanners on every good work.
The letter went on to say that the Delhi government is fulfilling its responsibilities and the L-G and PM are only creating roadblocks on its way.
