High speed and alcohol claimed yet another life in the city on Thursday.

A 27-year-old sales employee of a radio company was killed when he was returning from a party with his friends. Their car crashed into a tree at Vinay Marg in Chanakyapuri in the early hours on Thursday.

Zuhaib Khan, working as a sales manager with Red FM, had gone to Connaught Place on Wednesday night to attend a party of a former colleague.

Police said Khan’s colleague Hemant Sharma, who was driving the car, was reportedly drunk. The medical tests of the other three did not show any traces of alcohol.

The four colleagues, the other two identified as Sunil Sharma and Sunil Kumar, were on their way to Yashwant Place when the accident took place. Khan was sitting in the front seat and Sharma was at the wheels.

The four had reached Vinay Marg when Sharma, who was under the influence of alcohol, lost control of the car and hit a tree. While Khan died on the spot, the other three survived.

A native of Lucknow, Khan lived in a rented accommodation at Lajpat Nagar.

“He called me around 10.45 p.m. on Wednesday and said he was going for a party and would be late,” said Atif Iqbal, Khan’s roommate.

After the accident one of the occupants of the car called the police.
