A 25-year-old painter was found dead under mysterious circumstances outside a residential flat of Hudco Place in south Delhi's Defence Colony late Friday night.
Police said the victim was under the influence of alcohol and accidentally fell from a parapet on the first floor of the residential place in Block 2 of Hudco Place.
The victim, identified as Raja Chauhan — a native of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, had climbed on the parapet to bring down some articles lying there.
He lived in the servant's quarter of the flat with his cousins.
A senior police officer said the incident came to light on Saturday morning when a neighbour found Chauhan lying in a pool of blood outside the flat and made a call to the police control room.
"Chauhan had suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma center where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. At present, his body has been kept in the mortuary of the hospital and will be handed over to his family on Sunday after autopsy is conducted," said the officer.
Preliminary investigation has ruled out the possibility of foul play in the matter.
Police have questioned his relatives at the Hudco Place house and some of their neighbours to establish the sequence of events that led to Chauhan’s death.
A forensic team has also visited the spot, added the officer.
Police have also informed Chauhan's family members about the incident.
Chauhan had been living at the Hudco Place for the past two years.
