A 20-year-old management student sustained stab injuries while two other suffered bruises when a minor argument between them over the issue of drinking alcohol at a party turned into an ugly clash on Thursday.
The incident took place at around 1.20am outside Hotel Claridges, a five-star hotel located in the high-security Lutyen’s Delhi. The injured have been identified as Raunak Sahni, who suffered a stab wound in his abdomen, Rajat Malhotra and Aakeb. Raunak is a management student in a reputed management school located in Lodhi Road.
Police said that the victims had come to attend the birthday party thrown by their common friend Vaibhav Malhotra at the hotel. When contacted, Shweta Sahay, spokesperson of Hotel Claridges said that she has no information regarding the incident, as she is out of town.
While Raunak is convalescing in a private hospital in Gurgaon, the other two injured are recuperating at AIIMS, the police said.
According to a senior police officer, Raunak told him that he had an argument with Rajat at the party and the latter abused him as well. He was leaving for his home when Rajat, Aakeb and others assaulted him at the exit gate.
“The youths, except Rajat, had consumed liquor in the party. It was Raunak who had been forcing Rajat to drink alcohol even when the latter told him that he does not drink. When Rajat refused to drink, Raunak poured alcohol on his body. This infuriated Rajat and an argument broke out between them,” the officer said.
As soon as they came out of the hotel, a scuffle broke out between the two groups. Raunak left for his home in Bijwasan in his car from where his father admitted him to a private hospital in Gurgaon.
