A 65-year-old man, who retired from National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) suffered 75% burn injuries after a group of boys threw acid on him on Friday. The victim, Shradhanand Sharma, was playing cards with his friends in a park in Badarpur when a youth approached him for water.

“They asked my uncle and others for water. My uncle said they don’t have any water bottle and began playing cards again. Suddenly one of them threw a bucket full of acid on them. Others also faced burn injuries but were discharged after first-aid but my uncle is battling for his life,” said Manoj, Sharma’s relative.

“When the senior citizens told the boy they had no water and asked him to look for it elsewhere, he got angry and attacked them. The victims were taken to Apollo Hospital and later to Safdarjung Hospital,” said a senior police officer.

A case has been registered at the Badarpur police station and the police are hunting for the unidentified accused.
