The Delhi Police have arrested two persons for making extortion calls to a Malviya Nagar-based businessman. Police said the accused made several calls to the businessman, posing as a Tihar inmate and demanded Rs 3 lakh from him as protection money.

“We have arrested Prashant and Tarun for making the extortion calls. The caller introduced himself as Arif Badmash and claimed he was lodged in jail number seven of Tihar,” a senior police officer said.

The businessman received the first call on October 15.

“The caller asked him to give Rs 3 lakh in two days. He called him again on October 16 and told him to deliver the money at Sadar Bazar in Delhi cantonment the next day,” the officer added. All this while the complainant was recording the conversation he had with the extortionist.

With the police team keeping a close watch, the complainant was sent with a bundle of white papers in the shape of currency notes wrapped in polythene. “Two bike borne youths came to receive money and were apprehended on the spot,” he said.
