The court summoned Zorawar Singh, his brother Yuvraj Singh and their mother Shabnam Singh on October 21 for hearing in the matter.

A Gurgaon court has issued a notice to cricketer Yuvraj Singh, his brother Zorawar Singh, and mother Shabnam Singh after a complaint was filed by Zorawar’s estranged wife Akanksha Sharma, who has alleged harassment and torture by the trio during her seven month stay with the family.

The court therefore summoned Zorawar Singh, his brother Yuvraj Singh and their mother Shabnam Singh on October 21 for hearing in the matter.

The court therefore summoned Zorawar Singh, his brother Yuvraj Singh and their mother Shabnam Singh on October 21 for hearing in the matter.

The victim’s lawyer Swati Singh Malik confirmed the development and said that a case has been filed in a Gurgaon court as her client Akanksha Malik was subjected to harassment and torture.

“Akanksha was tortured mentally and physically and she was asked, rather irrationally, to start a family during a particular time-period as it will help in begetting a male child. She was subjected to both physical as well as mental harassment”, said Malik.

A notice to the family was sent on August 2 when the case was filed in the Gurgaon court. However, another notice was issued in September, and it remains to be seen whether it was served on the trio or not, said Malik. “The court will hear the case on October 21 and we expect their presence. The case was filed under various sections of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005”, she added.

However, Damanbir Singh Sobti, the lawyer for Yuvraj Singh’s family refuted the allegations and said that the case had been filed to get mileage and it would not stand judicial scrutiny.

“This case has been filed despite a compromise being worked out between Sharma and Zorwar and all her demands being fulfilled”, said Sobti.

He further said that a case of divorce with mutual consent between the duo is pending in Chandigarh but this perhaps is the fallout of criminal and civil defamation cases filed against Sharma by Yuvraj’s mother Shabnam Singh after her outbursts.

“There are certain misrepresentations being made in the social media that a criminal complaint or an FIR has been registered against my clients on the basis of false and baseless allegations. No such FIR or complaint has been filed. Akanksha has filed a petition under Section 25 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and my clients have been summoned as respondents and their counsel shall appear on their behalf on the date fixed before the court at Gurgaon”, Singh stated.
