Release info on Jaya’s health, says Karuna
CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government should release information and photos to quell rumours surrounding chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s health, her bitter rival and DMK chief K Karunanidhi said on Friday, questioning why senior ministers hadn’t visited her in hospital.
The DMK patriarch said he wished Jayalalithaa a speedy recovery but called her condition a “matter of public concern”, roughly a week after the CM was admitted to Chennai’s Apollo hospital with fever and dehydration. “Why has not the governor visited her so far?” the DMK leader asked.
Jayalalithaa’s health has triggered feverish speculation across the state with many supporters camped outside the hospital for days. An expert from London has been roped in for the CM’s treatment, sources said.
The AIADMK has rebuffed rumours that the CM is seriously ill. AIADMK spokesperson CR Saraswathi said the 68-year-old party chief will be back home soon after being cleared by the doctors.
A health bulletin on Thursday night said the CM was responding well to treatment.
