The Delhi Police have rescued a 10-year-old boy, kidnapped from Karawal Nagar in Delhi, from Shabga village under Chaprauli police station in Baghpat district on Monday.
Four people, including a distant relative of the victim, have been arrested. The accused are Sandeep Kumar (24), the victim’s relative, Sunil (26), Vishwas (20) and Phool Singh (28).
The police said the boy was kidnapped on April 24 evening when he went to get milk from a shop near his house. Local residents saw two men forcibly taking him on a motorcycle and the police were informed. The boy's name has been withheld due to security reasons.
The accused allegedly abducted the boy from Panchal Vihar in Karawal Nagar and demanded a ransom of Rs 30 lakh for his safe release.
During investigation, the police said it came to light that the grandfather of the kidnapped boy had retired from his job six months ago and had received a huge amount on his retirement.
“It also came to light that one of the distant relatives Sandeep was acting suspiciously. He was confronted and later he confessed to the kidnapping,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) S.S. Yadav.
“He hatched a plan to kidnap the boy four months back when he came to know about the payment of huge amount to the grandfather. He was also aware of the financial status of the boy’s uncle and father.”
The police said on sustained interrogation Sandeep further confessed that he and Sunil took him on a motorcycle and then got into a Maruti car at Lal Bagh.
The boy was kept at Phool Kumar's sister's house. “As Sandeep knew the boy, he planned to kill him after getting the money,” added Yadav.
