Eleven child labourers were rescued from west Delhi on Friday. The raid was conducted by the west district task force and an NGO. The children were rescued from sweet and bakery shops of Rajouri Garden.
"The rescued children are all minors, between the age group of 8 and 14 years. The children were trafficked from Nepal, UP and Bihar and had been working for the past one year," said a senior government official.
Employers of all the shops have been arrested and are required to pay a fine to prevent sealing of their shops. Children had been working in extremely high temperatures in the bakery.
"I am from Nepal and have been working here for over a year. Now, I want to go back home," said Shyaam (name changed), a nine-year old rescued boy from Nepal.
This is the second instance of child workers being rescued in two days in the city.
