12-year-old girl is 5th swine flu victim in Delhi

Delhi on Thursday reported its fifth swine flu death when a 12-year-old girl undergoing treatment succumbed to the viral infection even as the condition of a 35-year-old man remained critical.

A 66-year-old man from Hissar Hoshiar Singh, who was admitted to Metro Heart Hospital in New Delhi for heart ailment and diagnosed positve for swine flu, also died on Thursday. However, Delhi's swine flu management nodal officer Anjan Prakash said this death cannot be counted among casualties in the national capital.

The deceased girl Gauri, a resident of Dwarka, was admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital on September 3 and she died at 2.30 pm Thursday and the cause of her death is acute respiratory distress syndrome, said Hospital Superintendent NK Chaturvedi. She was also a patient of epilepsy, he added.

Gauri tested positive for swine flu virus, Chaturvedi said adding "this is the fifth case of death due to swine flu in Delhi."

The condition another 35-year-old man admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on September 6 is "very critical" and is on ventilator, Chaturvedi said adding "he is a diabetic patient."

Meanwhile, another 66 people, including 42 children, tested positive for the virus of the deadly disease today, taking the total number of swine flu cases reported here till date to 1,096.
