A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbours in Palam Village, southwest Delhi.
The two accused, who have been arrested, reportedly took her out on the pretext of shopping.
Police said the girl was a class VII student in a government school.
According to police, the accused knew the victim and her family.
The accused, Dharmender Singh (31) and Praveen Kumar (29), are property dealers from the same area where the mother of the victim runs a cosmetics shop.
They were arrested after the girl’s family lodged a complaint with the police.
The police said on Monday evening the accused had come to her mother’s shop.
“The girl was asking her mother to accompany her to the nearby market as she wanted buy some clothes. But her mother was not free. Singh offered to take her in his car,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
He said the mother of the victim was wary of sending her with Singh, but agreed after Singh promised to bring her back soon.
On the way to the market, Singh picked up his friend Kumar in his Alto car.
They went to the market where she bought clothes.
“While returning home, Singh took a detour. He took the car to a secluded place and then he and his friend took turns to rape her,” said the officer.
The police said the accused then allegedly threatened the girl with dire consequences
if she told anyone about the incident and dropped her home.
When her mother returned, the girl narrated the whole incident and she took her to the police station.
Police sent the girl to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for medical examination, which confirmed rape.
“The car in which they raped the girl had tinted windows. We have impounded the vehicle and booked them for rape,” said the officer.
