The Surajpur Police have arrested a father-son duo for killing the eldest daughter of their family in a suspect case of honour killing.
Police said the duo allegedly killed 16-year-old Monica and dumped her body in the Ganga Canal. The family had opposed her relationship with a distant uncle of hers. Police said she was killed on August 9.
"Mam Chand Jatav and his son Lalit Chand Jatav were arrested from Jaitpur village. On the basis on information given by them, the gun used to kill her was also recovered," said said Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailendra Lal.
The DSP said they have also recovered the Wagon R the duo used to ferry the body to the canal where they dumped it.
"Jatav’s daughter had an affair with a man, who is her uncle through a distant relation. The family did not
approve of their relationship and had told the girl several times not to talk to the man and to discontinue the relationship. But she ignored them," Lal said.
On August 9, the police said, the deceased was talking on phone with the same man.
At this her father got furious and then her brother also came to the room. In a fit of anger, they shot her dead.
Later they took her body in the car on pretext of taking her to the hospital.
Police said the duo told their neighbours that she had fallen from the stairs and was injured. They then took her body to Dariapur village and threw the body in the canal.
"Her brother is a BBA student. Her father was arrested in 2001 for his brother’s murder over a land dispute and was out on bail. He has six daughters and a son. The deceased was his eldest daughter," the DSP added.
