A shocking case of gangrape of a BPO employee came to light on Wednesday, the very day a new police commissioner took over in the Capital and promised to make its streets safe for women.
The 19-year-old east Delhi resident, who is also a correspondence course student at DU, was allegedly abducted and gangraped by four men on November 3. She was kept captive for 12 hours, police said. One accused, Rambir, has been arrested while three are absconding.
The girl was picked up in an autorickshaw by the four — one of whom is said to be a minor — soon after she stepped out of her house early in the morning to catch her cab to the Noida call centre where she works.
"The accused were on the prowl. They spotted her around 4.45 am waiting for her cab, pulled her into the autorickshaw and drove her to Pragati Maidan's vacant Commonwealth Games parking lot, where they took turns to rape her," said KC Dwivedi, additional commissioner of police (east).
They threatened to kill her if she made any noise. They finally dumped her close to her residence at around 5 pm.
According to the police, the victim and her family approached them on November 7.
A case of gangrape, kidnapping and illegal confinement has been registered. Rambir, the autodriver was arrested two days later.
"Rambir's accomplices have been identified," Dwivedi said, adding: "Several teams have been constituted to investigate the matter and they will be nabbed at the earliest."
