The court pulled up two other accused chargesheeted along with Sajjan Kumar in the 1984 anti-Sikhs riots case. It questioned the validity of medical reports submitted for seeking exemption from personal appearance on Wednesday.

A.K.Vashist, counsel for Captain Bhagmal (81) who is a retired Navy officer and an accused in Delhi Cantonment riots case, said Bhagmal was suffering from piles and knee joint problem and lived alone in his Gurgaon house.

“He is medically unfit to come to the court,” said Vashist.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lokesh Kumar Sharma said, “No medical document in respect to his illness has been placed on record.”

Another accused Kushan Singh Nagpal (60) in Sultanpuri riots case sought exemption on medical grounds.

“The medical report has not restricted him to bed,” said the judge. The court also noted that Nagpal has been given medicine for five days along with bed rest, but is not bed-ridden.
