Two friends, facing trouble in their personal lives, attempted suicide by consuming overdose of sleeping pills in Rohini area of outer Delhi on Friday night.
While one of them died, another is admitted to Ambedkar Hospital, where her condition is said to be stable.
Police said Neha Chauhan (23) and her friend Sneha (25) consumed sleeping pills and felt unconscious. The police was informed in the early hours of Saturday by a neighbour and both were rushed to the hospital.
“Neha, who is married and has a five-year-old son, died, while her friend Sneha is in hospital. Initial investigation suggests that Neha had a tiff with her husband while Sneha was depressed over the fact that her boyfriend was ignoring her,” said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity.
Neha was living at her father’s residence in Rohini’s Sector 16 for the past few days after a fight with her husband. The police said both were school friends and hail from Indore.
“Neha had called Sneha, as she was depressed. She had a love marriage but used to have fights with her husband over his drinking habit,” the officer added.
The police said neighbours who spotted Sneha lying unconscious at the gate of the house, informed the police. Initially, police was suspecting it as a case of murder as the woman’s husband was missing.
“Neha’s husband has joined the investigation and it is a case of suicide. We have taken the statement of Sneha and she has narrated the sequence of events,” said BS Jaiswal, DCP (outer).
Neha had a love marriage with Amit Chauhan in 2004 and the couple has a five-year-old son. Amit was in Raibareilly on Friday night at the time of incident, said the police.
