Two members of the ‘mirchi gang’ — both brothers — were arrested by the police after a brief gun battle in Aman Vihar on Thursday night.
With their arrest, the police claimed to have solved the sensational Sultanpuri armed robbery case, in which an employee of a gas agency was shot at on Tuesday night.
Rajiv Kumar alias Appu, 27, and his brother Rajesh Kumar, 25, were arrested from near the Kirari railway crossing following information that they were heading towards Haryana in search of a safe hideout, the police said.
BS Jaiswal, DCP (outer) said the accused took out their pistols when the police team asked them to surrender.
“In a bid to escape from the spot, Rajesh fired a bullet on the police party. Fortunately no one was hurt. Acting bravely, the team overpowered the duo and seized their pistols,” said Jaiswal, adding that two daggers and some robbed articles were recovered from their possession.
The accused, a senior police officer said, along with two other members of their gang had robbed Surjan Singh and Saroj Mishra, two employees of Hari Singh gas agency, and had pumped a bullet into Singh’s abdomen.
Police are looking for the absconding members of the gang.
