The Delhi traffic police on Monday suspended two of its constables for taking bribe from a transporter.

The police said that a departmental inquiry had been ordered against Ranvir Singh and Rajesh Kumar, both of who are posted in the Kapashera circle, and they may be dismissed soon.

“Many others in our force are on our radar, and they will face the music soon,” said a senior traffic police officer.

The police have decided to send out decoy teams to catch traffic policemen, who are allegedly taking bribes from road users, especially transporters. “We will use hidden video cameras to catch errant policemen,” the officer said.

Acting on a complaint received from a transporter about being harassed by two traffic policemen for bribe, the police caught the duo red handed.

“On Monday, one of our men in civil uniform was sent with the transporter in his truck. The two constables stopped the truck at their duty point on the Delhi-Haryana border and asked for Rs 2,000. While the transporter was handing over the money, our man caught the duo red handed and recovered the amount from them,” said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).
