One person was killed and another seriously hurt when the compressor of an air-conditioner exploded in south Delhi's Clarion Collection Qutub Hotel on Saturday.

According to the police, the air-conditioner exploded around 2.35pm when someone switched on the machine while a mechanic, Jamshed Husain, 20, was working on it.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
A gardener, who was nearby, sustained serious injuries.
His condition is said to be critical.
"A case of death due to negligence has been registered," said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south).
Husain had been called by the hotel authorities to fix the AC.
"The blast damaged his face," a police official said.
