A 20-year-old man was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his uncle’s hotel in east Delhi’s Preet Vihar on Wednesday.
Police said that Anshu Soni’s body was found by hotel staff around 1.30pm after they broke open the door when he did not open it throughout the morning. On finding his body, they informed the police.
“A suicide note was recovered from his hotel room, in which he said that he had a love affair and was depressed over it. He blamed no one in the note. Further investigation is on,” said DCP (east) Rishi Pal.
Anshu was last seen online on WhatsApp at 11.26pm on Tuesday. His status message read, “Jara hu par aauga to bass sabko yad aauga by all frnd with mari family aumhahah lv u (I am going. If I come back, it will be in your memories. To all my friends and family, I love you.)”
The family said that they are in shock. His uncle, Satish Soni, said that Anshu had never told anyone in the family that he was in love with a girl.
“He shared everything with his mother. Once he had even told her about some girl, but it was a long time ago. His mother didn’t take him seriously back then. It was only after his death she realised he had been serious,” he said.
The family said that Anshu was a hardworking man, who even looked after his elder sister and younger brother. After finishing school, Anshu did odd jobs. Over and year back, he began helping Satish in running hotel SS Residency. At night, he returned to his house in Burari, where he stayed with parents and two siblings. Often he stayed back in the hotel if he was got late due to work.
“Anshu was a friendly person. He joked a lot and made everyone laugh. It was because of his humble nature that even strangers easily mingled with him. His only bad habit was that he was always chatting on phone. So I frequently scolded him. Now I wish I hadn’t,” said Satish.
