In a bid to popularise the use of smart cards among its daily commuters, the Delhi Metro has decided to felicitate the top 200 smart card users.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has prepared a list of 200 smart cards numbers that have been used the maximum during the past one year (November 1, 2011-October 31, 2012).
"We will felicitate the top smart card users as a part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Delhi Metro during the fourth week of the month. We are however, yet to decide on the date for the felicitation," said Anuj Dayal, spokesperson of DMRC. The identified card holders have utilised the maximum electronic value during this period, he said.
DMRC officials said the commuters can check their smart card number given on the top right hand side corner of the back of their smart cards and tally it with the list of 200 top smart card numbers.
"This list is available at all Metro stations and commuters can contact the station managers to tally their smart card number. Commuters can also log on to our website www.delhimetrorail.com to check whether their number is on the Top 200 Smart Card List," said Dayal.
Using a smart card saves both time and money as commuters do not have to queue outside token counters and get a discount of 10% on every journey.
Since the Delhi Metro became operational 10 years ago, the percentage of smart card users has gone up from 10% to 70%.
