A 21-year-old Delhi University student’s life was cut short after he was shot at by four persons. The incident took place in New Kondli area of east Delhi on Friday morning.
According to the police, personal rivalry could be the motive for the murder.
The victim, identified as Akash Pandey, was pursuing his BA through correspondence from DU. At 10am, his friend Karan came to pick him up. Police said that Pandey had called Karan. Both then went to Kondli Chowk, where they met four others. Pandey then left with those four.
“We have taken Karan’s statement, according to which Pandey was approached by four men on bikes at the chowk. He left with them and Karan then went home,” said a senior police officer. “Soon after Pandey left with those men, a passerby discovered Pandey’s body in a compound in Phase 3 of Mayur Vihar. He informed the police at 10.45am,” the officer added.
Pandey was lying in a pool of blood with bullet injuries. He was rushed to the Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 3pm, said the police.
Pandey had four bullet wounds in his chest and abdomen. The police are also probing the love angle as Pandey had been in a relationship with a girl. The girl’s parents had been against the relationship and both the families even had an argument over the issue a year ago, police said.
The family of the deceased has alleged that Pandey had been threatened by three men on Thursday night. Pandey’s father works as a quality control manager in an export house in east of Kailash while his elder brother Abhishek works as a production manager in Lifestyle. A case of murder has been registered at the New Ashok Nagar police station.
