A 21-year-old married woman has accused her cousin of drugging and raping her at her in-laws’ place in February this year.
The woman alleged that her cousin filmed the act and had been sexually exploiting her by threatening to upload the video on internet. She said her cousin blackmailed her and demanded Rs 5 lakh for not releasing the video on social networking sites. A case of rape, drugging, and criminal intimidation has been registered at the Ambedkar Nagar police station against the woman’s cousin, identified as Naresh, 30. Police said Naresh, a cab driver, is on the run.
The matter came to light on August 1 when the woman approached the police with the complaint. She alleged that on February 20, she was alone at her in-laws’ house when Naresh came to meet her.
“She brought a bottle of cold drink and went to the kitchen. Naresh followed her and made her drink the soft drink. A few minutes later, she fell unconscious and found herself lying naked on the bed late in the night,” a police officer said. Initially, the woman did not tell anybody about the incident, fearing that it would ruin her married life.
A week after the incident, Naresh started sending her obscene text messages on her phone, she claimed. “He called her and told her that he had made a video of the incident and threatened to circulate it on the internet if she did not pay him R5 lakh,” said the officer.
On July 15, Naresh called her again and promised to delete the video if she allowed him to establish physical relations with her. But even after that, he did not delete the video, the officer added.
