A 22-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the elevated Sikanderpur Metro station platform on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sandeep Kumar and he worked as a lab assistant in Hansraj College in North Delhi, according to police officials.
Though he was rushed to a hospital, Kumar succumbed to multiple injuries. The absence of CCTV footage is also hampering investigation in the case.
Kumar lived in Malka Ganj, Delhi, with his wife, 18-month-old daughter and parents. The police are also questioning the deceased’s family members and acquaintances.
After the incident around 10.30am, several people assembled outside the station and informed the police.
According to eyewitnesses, the ambulance reached the spot in half an hour and by that time, Kumar had been taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.
Relatives as well as police officials are still clueless about what prompted Kumar to take the extreme step.
“He suffered multiple injuries and fractures and was rushed to Uma Sanjeevani hospital in DLF City. Later he was transferred to Paras hospital in Sushant Lok. His family members were informed immediately,” said a police official.
It is also being probed if Kumar had come to meet someone in Gurgaon and the purpose of his visit.
Meanwhile, his family is in a state of shock and does not any suspect any foul play. While some eyewitnesses claim to have seen him jump from the platform, DLF Phase-2 police station officials said they were yet to reconstruct the scene of crime as there is no CCTV footage available at the Metro station.
A case has been registered and the police are investigating the matter. “We have sent the body for postmortem which will be conducted on Wednesday,” said an official.
