Delhi Police have arrested a man who is thought to have burgled flats in Lutyen's Delhi.
According to the police, he broke into at least four homes in May alone. The police have found "expensive" watches and jewellery on him.
On June 4, two houses on Vinay Marg and in Chanakya Puri were burgled and items, including watches, mobile phones, silver utensils and gold jewellery, and cash was stolen in almost similar fashion. The owners were away when the burglaries took place.
"On the basis of tip-offs and information sourced from our contacts, we began investigating one Sonu Kumar of district Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. A raid was conducted there and he was arrested. Watches, gold and silver ornaments, utensils, perfumes and cell phones were recovered from his hideout in Sarojini Nagar," SBS Tyagi, DCP (New Delhi), said.
During interrogation, Kumar confessed that he was involved in four more cases of burglary.
The 22-year-old had been arrested earlier in seven cases of theft and burglary in south Delhi.
"He used to move with a bag pretending to be an electrician to survey locked houses in the locality. After ascertaining that no one was present in the house, he used to break open the latch of the door and enter. He chose evenings to break into houses due to the evening rush hour that would supress the noise," Tyagi added.
