Depressed over not finding a job, a 24-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from the ITO Bridge in East Delhi on Friday evening.
According to the police, the woman parked her car by the side of the bridge and then jumped from the bridge. The body is yet to be recovered; however, the police recovered a suicide note from the car.
The police said that they received a call around 7:30 pm from the family of the victim itself. The victim is a resident of Babar Lane in the Capital.
"She had completed her MBA sometime back but was not able to find a job of her choice. She was depressed about it. She took out their family car and headed for ITO Bridge," said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
The police said that the woman reached the spot and sent an SMS to her younger sister. "She messaged her saying that she was tired of her life and wanted to end her life by jumping into the Yamuna. Her sister immediately called her back but she did not pick up the phone," added the officer.
According to the police, the victim's father and sister spotted the car on the bridge while they were looking for her and found it abandoned. They then called the police who found a suicide note inside the car.
The police have started its search operation in the area and also deployed divers to find the body.
