A 24-year-old criminal, who is involved in more than 15 cases of armed robbery and carries a reward of Rs 20,000, was finally arrested in outer Delhi, police said on Friday.
BS Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of police (outer) said Rakesh alias Raka, a resident of Kanjhawala village, had fired at the police team before he was overpowered during routine checking on the Kanjhawala-Ghewra Road on the evening of October 27.
"On April 1, he had murdered a man, later identified as Sonu, in a field near the Chotu Ram Institute in Kanjhawala. On September 5, he and his associates had gunned-down a man identified as Arun in Rasulpur village in addition to committing various crimes during the intervening period," DCP Jaiswal said.
According to police, in addition to killing these two men, who belonged to a rival gang, Rakesh was also found to be involved in 12 other cases of car-jacking, robbery, dacoity and attempt to murder. He was travelling on a stolen motorcycle when he was arrested.
"During interrogation, he confessed to have committed a number of car-jacking and robberies in Delhi, Haryana and Maharashtra with his associates. A 7.65 mm pistol, four live cartridges and two shells were recovered from his possession. The original papers of the stolen bike and the victim's driving license were also recovered from him," Jaiswal added.
