A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his sister-in-law in outer Delhi’s Alipur area, police said on Tuesday.
BS Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of police (outer) said the accused, identified as Ashu Sharma, had strangulated Mamta, 30, because she had refused to have physical relations with him. He is a cousin of the victim’s husband, Sajjan Singh. According to police, Ashu was arrested following investigations into a murder complaint filed on July 24.
According to the complaint, Mamta had been murdered by an unknown person at her residence located in the Budpur village of Alipur area.
“We zeroed-in on Ashu after prima facie investigations pointed to his dubious absence.
“He was apprehended from his sister’s house at Poothkalan.
He broke down and confessed to the crime during intensive questioning,” DCP Jaiswal said.
Police said that during questioning, Ashu admitted to the fact that on July 24, he offered the victim to have sex with him, but she refused.
This led to an altercation between the two.
It was during the altercation that he smothered her to death in a fit of rage.
According to police, Sharma hails from Sonepat district of Haryana.
After he had got a job of a clerk at a private company located at Alipur, Sharma had been staying with his cousin. Still unmarried, Singh was also pursuing his graduation. Further interrogation is in progress.
