A 25-year-old Indian Army jawan shot himself dead with his licensed rifle at his house in northeast Delhi's Karawal Nagar on Friday night.

According to the police, the incident took place around 8 pm and the victim has been identified as Anil Tomar.

Tomar, who was posted in Jammu, had come to his hometown after taking a leave from his job a couple of days ago.

On Friday night, a police officer said, Tomar locked himself inside a room and shot himself in the head with the licensed rifle.

"Hearing the gunshot, Tomar's brother broke open the door and rushed him to a private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. The post mortem examination on Tomar's body was conducted on Saturday at the GTB hospital,” said the police officer, adding the exact reason behind the extreme step could not be ascertained, as Tomar did not leave any suicide note.

Tomar is survived by his wife and an eight-month-old son. The family members of Tomar said he was tensed because of job pressure.
