A 28-year-old pharmacist was killed after he was run over by an unknown vehicle on Lajpat Nagar flyover in south Delhi on Wednesday night.

The victim was riding his motorcycle and was heading towards his home in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar when the accident took place.

According to the police, the victim first rammed his motorcycle into a stationary radio taxi, due to the impact
of which he fell and was run over by an unidentified vehicle. The deceased has been identified as Sanjiv Bhattacharya, who worked as a pharmacist at AIIMS.

“Apparently, it looks that Bhattacharya failed to locate the static radio taxi. His two-wheeler rammed straight into the car from behind and due to the powerful impact of the hit, he fell down and got crushed under the wheels of an unknown vehicle,” said the senior officer.

Bhattacharya was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. A case has been registered against the radio taxi driver, who has been arrested.

“He (driver) told us that he had called for another taxi of the same company to ferry his passenger as his vehicle broke down on the flyover. While he was putting the passenger’s baggage in another cab, the motorcyclist smashed his two-wheeler into his vehicle. However, we didn’t find the second cab or the passenger when we reached the spot,” the officer added.
